Drawing on forty years’ experience in transatlantic relations, Ryan asserts that the United States and Europe need each other and that by working together now with like-minded global partners, they can forge a Transatlantic Century. Given Chinese president Xi’s premature revelation of China’s strength and intentions, Ryan argues that a window of opportunity to act collectively and prevail is open. Together, making common cause these like-minded nations have the means, the ways of working, and appear agreed on the ends. What’s missing is a grand strategy. In Ryan’s view, by reframing our understanding of the way the world works, holistically, systematically, and structurally, a geostrategic pathway appears. Citing Simon Sinek’s prescription in The Infinite Game as the necessary methodology, Ryan’s policy recommendations give strategic specificity to Sinek’s formulation. Ryan concludes that by leading the world toward greater prosperity and peace, the allies will usher in the Transatlantic Century, thereby shaping China’s trajectory.
